| The John 1721 Movement is a Global Alliance of YMCAs, Ministries, Churches, and other organizations that are seeking to live out the words in the last prayer that Jesus prayed for his disciples: “I pray…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” ~ The Book of John 17:21 Jesus prayed this pray not only for his disciples, but for everyone in the future that would believe in him through the disciples’ life and witness. This is a prayer for us in this day and age and Jesus still prays this for us today. Over the centuries, followers of Christ have attempted to walk in the truth of this prayer. It is not something that can be “strived for in our own strength”, but a prayer that needs to be “walked in by faith”, daily living out the multi-faceted love of Christ’s love for all people. Historically, some organizations have rallied around this John 1721 passage. The YMCA, founded as a workplace prayer movement in England in 1844, had this as a central verse of it’s mission. The Student Volunteer Movement of the late 1800s rallied around this unity. In the last century, Campus Crusade for Christ, Young Life, Navigators, Intervarsity, The Lusanne Conference of World Missions, The Pastors Prayer Summit Movement, and many other local, national, and international organizations have sought to walk in the truth of John1721. This John 1721 Movement website’s mission is to create a platform for encourage, equipping, and resourcing those who still desire to walk in the truth of Jesus’ prayer today. This movement is bigger than any one single organization and is international in scope. YMCAs around the world are experiencing renewal and new vision around their historic John1721 mission, so there are special areas on this website dedicated to sharing resources and connections for individuals that are interested in this kind of work. YMCAs also serve a unique role in communities around the world as a “community space” or “community place” where people from all backgrounds and walks of life are welcome. They, therefore, can serve as a rallying place to see Christ’s love lived out in practical ways in real life situations. Other organizations are also having this kind of impact in their own unique way and we seek to lift them up here too and share their ideas and resources. The global movement of CRU, impacts high school students, college students, young professionals, urban youth, the poor and disenfranchised around the world. They also have a vision for John1721.
